Call for abstracts: socially engaged philosophy of science

Submissions are now open for the Mid-South Phi Sci 2019!

KEYNOTE: Sean Valles

We welcome extended abstracts of 600–1000 words on the theme “Socially Engaged Philosophy of Science.” We welcome submissions from any area of philosophy of science, broadly construed and including the philosophy of medicine and bioethics. We especially encourage submissions that seek to investigate the relationship between philosophy of science and the sciences, that result from collaorations with the sciences, that address the role of science in broader social issues, or that employ a regional focus, such as projects on the opioid epidemic or the role of coal in the energy crisis.

The conference will take place on March 29–30, 2019 in Lexington, KY, on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Registration will be free to all participants. We aim to provide travel and lodging stipends to all participants, especially for early-career and untenured scholars. Presentations will take place all day Friday and Saturday morning. On Saturday afternoon, speakers will participate in a workshop-style discussion about issues at the interface of the philosophy of science and regional social concerns.
